United Way Centraide North East Ontario/Nord-est de l’Ontario to host 2nd annual Charity Match in support of youth mental health
United Way Centraide North East Ontario - Tuesday, 9 July 2019
Mark your calendars! September 13, 2019 is the day the puck will drop for the United Way Charity Match presented by Bell Let’s Talk. For the second consecutive year, the Sudbury Wolves (OHL) and the Memorial Cup Champions, the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (QMJHL) will square off at the McIntyre Arena in support of youth mental health.
“UWCNEO is committed to helping children and youth succeed,” says Jennifer Gorman, Manager, Cochrane and Timiskaming Districts. “With the support of our partners, United Way is working to ensure that resources and supports are available locally to help our children and youth build resiliency, self-esteem and their sense of belonging. Last year, the Charity Match sold out, raising over $15,000. It was such a positive experience we can’t wait to do it again.”
Michael Cullen, Executive Director with UWCNEO, adds, “Mental illness affects us all – it doesn’t discriminate. Sadly, the data we have available indicates that only 1 in 5 children who need mental health services receive them. We need to tackle this #UNIGNORABLE issue as a community, and the Charity Match is one example of how we are doing just that. By working together, we create a powerful platform to bring awareness about youth mental health.”
“One of the biggest hurdles for anyone suffering from mental illness is overcoming the stigma that prevents so many from getting the treatment they need,” said Sandy McDonald, Bell’s Regional Director of Community Affairs. “That’s why initiatives such as this by the Wolves and Huskies in partnership with United Way Centraide North East Ontario are so important to raising awareness, especially among young people, and why Bell Let’s Talk is pleased to lend our support.”
Tickets for the September 13 game can be purchased online starting today through the Timmins Rock Junior “A” organization or by contacting UWCNEO.
